2009 ANGLER OF THE YEAR
SCOTTIE BLACKBURN
2008 ANGLER OF THE YEAR
JEFF TROUT
An Angler of the Year should be somebody who is a great fisherman. It should be somebody who can
adapt to different situations—different lakes, different patterns, different seasons, different weather
conditions, different lake conditions, and different techniques. The Angler of the Year, for any club or
organization, should be flat out the best fisherman for that year. And for the 2010 campaign of the
Kentucky Fellowship of Christian Bass Anglers our Angler of the Year was just that and more. We
would like to congratulate Jeff Trout for being KYFCOBA 2010 Angler of the Year.
It should be noted that Jeff is now a two-time Angler of the Year. If ever there were a Kevin Van Dam
of the KYFOCBA then it would have to be him. He has been THE top performer over the last three
years. He captured the 2008 Angler of the Year prize with a great year and many top finishes. And
after a sub-par 2009, according to his standards (Jeff finished just outside the top ten cut last year),
he was back on track in 2010. Over a three-year period, he has won a total of 5 tournaments—more
than anybody else in the club.
From a numbers/statistics side, his year was unbelievable. Wussell’s year started out with a solid 4th
place finish at beautiful Norris Lake. The next tournament was where he completely blew away the
field. He weighed in almost 10 and a half pounds at Dewey and opened up his AOY lead and never
gave it up for the rest of the season. Throughout the rest of the season, he would notch another
victory at Yatesville, a 3rd place finish, and another 4th place finish. Out of 10 tournaments, Wussell
brought in a keeper to 8 of those tournaments. His 57+ pounds this year is the most ever by a
KYFOCBA member in single year. It truly was a remarkable year for Jeff. There were a couple of
guys who made a push at his lead, namely Curt Hall III and Jaimey Hager toward the end of the
season. Neither were quite able to make up the difference in weight. .
Jeff has always given God the credit in everything he does (along with his good luck charm he
brought along for a few tournaments—Blinker). His humbleness and humility will always be an
example for others to follow. From all of the KYFOCBA members, we congratulate Jeff Trout as our
2010 KYFOCBA Angler of the Year!

2011 ANGLER OF THE YEAR
SCOTTIE BLAKBURN

We would like to extend a big congratulation to our 2011
Angler of the Year, Scottie Blackburn. This now makes
Scottie a two-time Angler of the Year and continues the
teeter-totter battle between him and Jeff Trout the last four
years for AOY. Scottie’s accomplishment comes on the
heels of a new point system that made the standings even
tighter this year. And with stiffer competition this year and
membership at an all-time high, the prestige of this award
makes it even that much more special. There were a lot guys
pushing Scottie towards the end of the season, namely,
Eddie Collins, Jaimey Hager, Mike May, and Jeff Trout, just
waiting for Scottie to slip up and not catch a fish. But he
caught fish when he had to and when it mattered the most.
He was in the money in half the tournaments; weighed at
least one fish in 8 out of the 10 tournaments; and he was the
only angler to eclipse the 40 pound mark for the year,
weighing in 44 pounds 6 ounces.
It should be noted and everybody that knows Scottie knows
this, that for every single tournament, he drives from his
home in Cincinnati to compete and fellowship with us. We
truly are thankful that he is able to be with us at each
tournament. He is always helping with whatever is needed to
be done. His personality is as big as his smile and we
appreciate everything that he does for the club and us as
individuals. Congratulations Scottie Blackburn 2011 Angler
of the Year.
